Are Customers Leaving You Behind?

Why Do Some Clients Leave?

If you spend all of your time trying to attract only new customers, you might be neglecting your company's lifeline; it's existing loyal customer base.

Loyal customers typically account for an unusually high percentage of your sales and profits. It takes a lot longer for a new account to become as profitable as an existing client that already knows and trusts you (and often provides critical feedback on your services and pricing as a vendor) that a new client will not.

If a loyal customer leaves you, it is important to find out where they went AND why they defected from you so you can avoid those mistakes in the future.

Once you understand why a customer left, it will help you determine whether or not your current business strategies are working and what you need to change going forward.

Also, exit interviews with lost clients are also a good sales tool because they can help you map your company's future by understanding it's past.

It is believed that one-third of your defectors can be saved and brought back into the mix with proper attention to their reasons for leaving in the first place.

Manage client complaints!

Here's why:

Many people have developed an automatic response by saying, “Oh well, you can’t please all the people all the time" and, that might actually be true sometimes ... or is it?

I believe that if you give the complaining person the same level of attention, respect and interest as you would any important sale to a client (or a pitch to your boss), not only will you satisfy the person complaining in that critical moment, but, you will win them over for the long term and reap the benefits of being a good listener and a problem solver for years to come.

You will create a RAVING FAN for your business.

So, the next time you hear a client complaining about something, do not hesitate to jump right in with both feet and turn that complaint into an opportunity to stand out in the crowd and create a new raving fan.

... It really works!

At Red Rock, not only do we listen to you, we hear you!

Marketing vs. Advertising?

Is there a difference?

... YES!

Many people confuse marketing with advertising or vice versa. Both are equally important, but, they are very different from each other. Understanding the difference between the two can put your company on a path to future growth like never before.

Here are the definitions of each:

Advertising: The paid, public, non-personal announcement of a persuasive message by an identified sponsor; the non-personal presentation or promotion by a firm of its products to its existing and potential customers.

Marketing: The systematic planning, implementation and control of a mix of business activities intended to bring together buyers and sellers for the mutually advantageous exchange or transfer of products.

You can see by the definitions that it is easy to be confused to the point where we think of them as one-in-the same, so lets break it down even further ...

Advertising is a single component of the overall marketing process. It involves getting the word out about your business, product, or services. Advertising can include ads, direct mail campaigns, highway billboards, television, radio and even the internet.

The best way to consider the difference between advertising and marketing is to think of marketing as a pie and advertising is just one slice of that pie.

Marketing is a lengthy process that takes time and can involve many hours of research and effort (and action) before a marketing plan can be effective. It is not "run one ad and hope" something happens. It requires a good team of employees and vendors to make things happen!

Turn negative to positive!

By simply changing negative words and phrases to positive words and phrases, you will feel better inside and actually do a better job too.

A few examples are:

Negative to Positive:

I have to .......... I get to

Problems ........ Opportunities

Setback ......... Challenge

Pain ............... A Signal

... and, phrases like:

I want to get out of debt to I am going to earn more money!

I’m stressed out about this project to I always create amazing results in my projects!

If you have experienced negative results or have negative feelings towards your current print vendor (or are paying too much for your printing), change that negative to a positive today.

Are you taking care of the three "Gettins"?

Over the years, we have all witnessed many great companies lose their way because they only focused on two (of the THREE) most important elements in running a business;

They are:

1) gettin' jobs IN (sales)
2) gettin' jobs OUT (production)

...and the most important one of all;

3) gettin' PAID! (cashflow)

While the first two are crucial to the success of any business and should be a top priority when planning, the most important one (and often overlooked) is "gettin' paid."

Cashlow, profit, sales, volume, profit, cashflow, sales, volume, PROFIT (get the point?) are not bad words and strict payment policies should be in place from the very beginning so your new clients understand what your terms are and do not be afraid to enforce them if they violate your policies.

How many times have you heard the story about a client that owes a vendor a bunch of past due money and they promise to pay if they could only get one more rush job by Friday? Then, the owner agrees to do it out of fear of losing a "good" client and ALL the money eventually winds up becoming bad debt because the owner was afraid to freeze the account or produce the new work COD while payments were to be made on the past due balance.

Its painful to think about especially in these already troubled times so do yourself a favor and make sure you take care of all three gettins' from now on ... it might just save your business.
